How You Can Help
Funding Individual projects. GAFI needs funding for sets of films to be copied and delivered to new non-government organisations, national tv audiences and government ministers in the countries it already works in, plus of course we have 10 new countries to begin work in. Any donation is extremely helpful but we are looking for help with the following in 2006-7: (you can click on the relevant 'buy now' button to make an immediate donation by credit card (paypal) - or alternatively donate by cheque or bank transfer - please contact info@nutshellproductions.co.uk for details) • To produce a DVD copy of a film to raise awareness in Africa , Malaysia or Indonesia costs £15. • Questionnaires
need to be printed and analysed to help us to establish how best to help
each community on a local level. £40 will help us to print these
important documents. • Sets of
GAFI films to supply the many requests we have received from
non government organisations in Africa , Malaysia and Indonesia. It costs
£100 to get a set of films to a country. We have 13 countries so
far working with us, 10 new ones to get to. Each country has a target
of 4-6 NGOs with 4 projects each, plus the television audience,….in
other words we are looking at a minimum of 17 sets of GAFI films in each
language (French and English) per country. • Data projectors,
to allow the screening of GAFI films in remote villages, community centres
and schools. Special discounts are given to GAFI but with postage it
costs us £1,000 to have a data projector which will stand field
conditions for a number of years. • GAFI seeks to support the work of the men and women who put their life on the line daily in order to save the few remaining great apes in the world. There are many rangers who are unpaid, who have families, they lack equipment, vehicles, uniforms and communications. These courageous people have to resist guns, poachers, and many die each year. Donations to the International Rangers Federation would help to provide the rangers with what they need to do their job. • Deforestation is a major issue in African, Indonesia and Malaysia. Tree planting schemes try to address the issue and redress the balance. Donations to tree planting schemes would give a habitat a chance to offer a home to great apes in the future. Consuming: Links to organisations: There is strength in numbers and GAFI is privileged to have 16 non-government organisations as partners. Supporting one of the partners supports us all. Orangutan Society Tourism:
One of the key factors in saving the mountain gorillas has been the impressive tourism generated by seeing habituated groups. This is one way that local communities realise that the apes in their region have a value in being kept alive, it brings in money. There are a number of genuine ecotourism companies who support conservation methods in their regions. There is of course a trade off; climate change is the most serious threat to all of us in including great apes, but paying a small carbon offset fee can give you the guilt-free trip of a lifetime. GAFI also
recommends the following: Volunteer: GAFI needs volunteers based in Oxford, but if you are in Bristol the Ape Alliance would be very grateful of your help. Some volunteering can be done remotely, so if you don’t live in UK or these areas it is still worth enquiring if you are interested to support GAFI and its partners. |
