Minyak atau Orangutan?
(ORANGUTAN DAN KELAPA SAWIT)

Oil or Orangutans?
(ORANGUTANS AND PALM OIL)

Palm Oil is found in 1 in 10 supermarket products in the UK. This huge boom crop is now the new focus of biofuels, and Indonesia is preparing itself for this new demand. Meanwhile unsustainable forest conversion occurs whilst huge areas of degraded land are are left empty. Orangutans are one of the many species that are suffering. Local people are also feeling the effects of uncontrolled land clearance, which results in largescale and destructive fires and floods.

Sumatra

Palm oil is an important ingredient in thousands of food and other products from crisps to soap. Forests throughout Indonesia and Malaysia are being cut down to make way for this lucrative crop which can thrive in other less vital areas. The plantation workers who create and manage these areas are unfamiliar with how to handle the many orangutan who have lost their homes. This film sets out to train them in what to do in these difficult circumstances.
